Our bespoke strategies

We invest in real assets to build resilient portfolios and grow long term returns for our investors.

With decades of experience, our strategies offer investors access to compelling opportunities at the forefront of change including supporting the energy transition, decarbonising industry, enhancing nature recovery and growing thriving economies.

Operating internationally, we combine our financial and operational skillsets across a portfolio of over 450 assets throughout Europe and Australia.  This hands-on approach helps us maximise overall value and provide attractive returns to our diverse institutional investor base across a broad range of fund strategies and investment structures.

Our Infrastructure Market Outlook: the sustainability transition

The overall transition to a sustainable society can be categorised into three distinct phases in order to frame the wide range of opportunities resulting from it.

Phase 1: Initial Power Transition

(2005 – c.2018)
The initial waves of renewables being added to power grids.

The first phase, which saw the emergence of renewable energy (primarily wind and solar) and the sector established as a mature and highly popular asset class for institutional investors, has already occurred. This initial wave of renewables broadly corresponds with the period following the Kyoto Protocol coming into force in 2005, requiring signatory states to commit to emission reductions.

Since our first investments into solar in 2007, we have established ourselves as a leading investor in renewable energy generation infrastructure during this phase. We currently manage a portfolio with 3.1GW renewable energy generation capacity and over 250MW of enabling infrastructure assets, and are pursuing further opportunities in this sector.

Phase 2: Systemic Power Transition

(c.2018 onwards)
Decarbonisation and a systemic overhaul of the energy grid is underway.

The second phase requires a fundamental reshaping of the systems that drive the global economy.

As the global transition from a passive, centralised, carbon intensive energy system to a smarter, decentralised, low carbon system has accelerated, there has been a need to upgrade transmission and distribution infrastructure. This particularly relates to energy storage and grid flexibility.

This forms the basis for the strategy of our flagship private markets energy transition fund, FEIP, which invests into opportunities arising from the transition in Europe, the US and Australia.

Phase 3: Wider Sustainable Transition

(early 2020's onwards)
Extending beyond the power sector, the last phase involves a wider transformation across all economic sectors the need to address the remaining c.70% of global economic emissions.

Meeting global demand and decarbonisation targets and responding to land use changes will require investment in new practices, technology and sustainable infrastructure.

We have already begun to evaluate opportunities that may arise during Phase 3. These include new forms of sustainable food production such as controlled environment agriculture and controlled environment aquaculture, as well as clean and advanced transport opportunities to green our road and rail networks.
